The file extension .OGG can be opened using a variety of media players and is comparable to other music and video formats such as MP3, VQF and AAC. However, its most outstanding feature is the fact that .OGG is distributed free, unpatented and open for use by various users at no charge. Other audio and video formats can be embedded in the file extension .OGG. The applications used however should have filters to play .OGG files in players based on DirectShow. Players that operate independent of DirectShow however do not need the filters.
